Mortgage protection

Keep your family in the home you worked for.

Mortgage protection is term life insurance matched to your mortgage. If you pass away during the term, the policy pays a tax-free death benefit to your family, who can use it to pay off the mortgage, keep up payments, or cover other bills. The money goes to your family, not the bank, so they decide how to use it.

  • Coverage matched to your loan: choose a 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30-year term to fit your mortgage
  • Level premiums: your rate stays the same for the whole term
  • Living benefits: many plans let you access part of the benefit for a terminal, chronic, or critical illness
  • Return of premium options: some plans refund premiums if you outlive the term
  • Simple approval: many plans need no medical exam; approval depends on your answers to health questions

Mortgage protection is life insurance. It is not issued by or connected with your lender or any government agency. Benefits, riders, and availability vary by carrier, state, and underwriting.

Just bought a home?

Mortgage protection is worth a look if you:

  • Have a spouse, children, or family who depend on your income
  • Would leave your family unable to make the payments
  • Want coverage that goes to your family, not the lender
  • Want protection if you become seriously ill
  • Recently bought, refinanced, or took out a home equity loan

Indexed Universal Life (IUL)

Lifetime protection with cash value that can grow.

An IUL is permanent life insurance that protects your family for life and builds cash value linked to a stock market index, such as the S&P 500, without investing directly in the market.

  • Growth potential: cash value earns interest based on index performance, up to a cap
  • Protection from losses: a 0% floor means market drops do not reduce credited interest below zero
  • Tax advantages: cash value grows tax-deferred, and you may access it through policy loans and withdrawals
  • Living benefits: many plans let you use part of the death benefit for chronic, critical, or terminal illness
  • Flexible premiums: adjust what you pay as your life changes

IULs are not investments in the stock market. Caps, participation rates, fees, and charges apply. Policy loans and withdrawals reduce the cash value and death benefit and may cause the policy to lapse. Guarantees depend on the claims-paying ability of the issuing carrier. Ask for a carrier illustration for your exact numbers.

Is an IUL right for you?

An IUL can be a good fit if you:

  • Want coverage that lasts your entire life
  • Want tax-advantaged cash value you can access for retirement or emergencies
  • Want to leave a tax-free benefit to your family
  • Have already maxed out or want to supplement a 401(k) or IRA
  • Are a business owner planning for key-person or buy-sell coverage

Hospital indemnity

Mutual of Omaha Hospital Protection Plan

A hospital stay can bring deductibles, copays, and everyday bills that keep coming while you recover. Mutual of Omaha's Hospital Protection Plan pays cash benefits directly to you when you are hospitalized for a covered illness or injury. You decide how to use the money, and benefits are paid in addition to Medicare or any other coverage you have.

  • Daily hospital benefit from $100 to $1,000 per day, or a lump-sum hospital benefit from $100 to $3,000
  • Choose your coverage days: 3 to 10, 15, 20, or 31 days for each period of confinement
  • Observation stays are covered, up to five days per calendar year
  • Built-in benefits for mental health stays and pet boarding while you are in the hospital
  • Guaranteed renewable as long as premiums are paid on time
  • Issue ages 18 to 85, with a guaranteed issue period for ages 64 to 74 with no health questions
  • Rates do not change for tobacco use, and a household discount may be available

Hospital indemnity insurance is not health insurance and does not replace Medicare or major medical coverage. Policies are underwritten by Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company, Omaha, NE. A six-month pre-existing condition limitation applies. Exclusions, limitations, and underwriting apply; the guaranteed issue period is subject to eligibility. Benefits, riders, and availability vary by state. Optional riders are an added cost. Michigan Benefit Services is an independent agency and is not Mutual of Omaha.

Optional riders

Add extra protection at the time you apply, for an added cost:

  • Ambulance, emergency room, and urgent care
  • Skilled nursing facility care
  • Outpatient surgery
  • Lump-sum cancer benefit
  • Outpatient therapy and chiropractic
  • Major diagnostic tests like MRI and CT scans
  • Home health care
  • Prescription drug reimbursement
  • Guaranteed purchase option to increase your daily benefit
